Dixon Bayco and Betts Industries Celebrate 20-Year Partnership

Dec. 11, 2024

Dixon Bayco and Betts Industries celebrated their 20-year SuperTanker partnership this year. The milestone was marked at the NTTC Tank Truck Week in Charlotte, N.C., with a reception hosted by the two companies at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

The SuperTanker program was originally conceived by Bob Koeninger, then general manager of Dixon Bayco, and Tom Mooney, former vice president of sales at Betts Industries. Both now retired, Koeninger and Mooney saw the partnership as an opportunity to expand marketing and customer service in the petroleum tanker market. Dixon Bayco and Betts Industries, family-owned businesses over 100 years old, joined forces with this vision.

The SuperTanker program offers a five-year extended warranty for petroleum tankers equipped with a combination of Betts and Dixon Bayco components, provided no competitor’s components are used. Betts Industries, based in Warren, Pa., supplies manhole covers, emergency valves, valve operators, vapor recovery vents, Wet-r-Dri butterfly valves, manual and air-operated manifolds, as well as customer service and technical support. Dixon Bayco, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, provides overfill protection, API loading and unloading valves, vapor recovery vents, vapor connectors, product indicators, and cam and groove connectors, with an emphasis on customer service and technical support, similar to Betts.

Since its inception, the SuperTanker program has significantly impacted the industry. "It’s difficult to say how many SuperTankers have hit the market since we started the program," said J.C. Dolinger, national sales manager for Dixon Bayco. " But some of the largest fleets and trailer dealers in the country have made SuperTanker their standard—it’s a big number.”

Founded in 1901, Betts Industries is a leading manufacturer of critical components and lighting systems for the global tank-truck industry. Known for its family ownership and commitment to community values, Betts has built a legacy of fair and honest business practices and strong customer relationships. Betts’ mission is to provide unsurpassed customer service, industry leadership, and innovative products that stand the test of time.

Dixon, founded in 1916 by Howard W. Goodall in Philadelphia, Pa., began as a small manufacturer producing rotary hose couplings and other industrial fittings. Over the years, Dixon has expanded its product line and geographic reach, becoming a leading global supplier of industrial hose fittings, valves, and accessories. Dixon’s Bayco division focuses primarily on the tank truck industry. The Bayco division has state-of-the-art electronics manufacturing for their FloTech® overfill product line, as well as machining operations for tank truck and industrial valves and equipment. Dixon strives to be a partner customers can count on, upholding its mission, vision, and values for today and the future.

Both companies have experienced significant plant expansions and invested heavily in new manufacturing technologies as a result of the SuperTanker program. "Along with adding more manufacturing space, market share growth has bolstered our labor force," said Garth Dexter, Dixon Bayco Division Manager.

Looking to the future of the partnership, Dolinger expressed optimism: "With our North American market success, we believe our value proposition will benefit global customers as well. In the next two to five years, we plan to see significant international growth." Dexter added, "The success of the SuperTanker package has been driven by Dixon and Betts sales teams working together to provide top-tier product training and end-user support. Their hard work and enthusiasm have allowed us to cover much more ground than either company could achieve alone."

Andy Beardsley, vice president of sales at Betts Industries, further emphasized  the synergy between the two companies’ sales teams as the key to the joint venture’s success. "The program has been successful because both partners share the same vision, core values, and commitment to developing fairly priced and readily available products. Support staff and management from both companies endorse these principles, creating a beneficial program for the entire petroleum tank truck industry," Beardsley concluded.

Together, Dixon Bayco and Betts Industries have built a partnership that customers can trust, delivering unmatched reliability, safety, and support. By aligning their expertise and shared values, both companies continue to innovate and provide solutions that meet the evolving needs of the petroleum tanker industry. This collaboration has been the foundation of this successful 20-year partnership. As the industry changes, customers can count on Dixon Bayco and Betts Industries to continue driving progress and delivering value for years to come.
